I suspect that we are probably looking at slow memory leaks. [Dan Shafer on Web Building describes a crash with Mac OS X]
I find logging out and then back in helps a lot. Although I never log out of my desktop 400Mhz B&W and it seems fine. I occasionally have the mouse freeze. I used to think this was a hard crash and reboot. I was convinced there was a hardware problem with the machine. But recently this happened and for some reason I tried unplugging the keyboard and plugging it back in. When I did that the mouse came back to life. So I'm beginning to think there is a problem with USB on the machine. I may never have to reboot again.

I'm thinking of starting a new category of historical weblogs. They aren't technically weblogs, but I think they capture the spirit of weblogs. For example, Sei Shonagon was a Heian period author of a diary known as the Pillow Book (makura no soshi) in which she describes her life and thoughts. Sounds like a weblog to me.

We got a new hot water heater today. It's a GE 50 gallon 12 year warranty jobby. The one we had came with the house and it just wasn't doing its job. We always ran out of hot water filling the tub in the master bedroom. Now hot water is almost immediate. This may even save us water as we don't have to wait for the water to heat up before using it.

I finally got a little notebook to carry around. I'm planning to take notes for my weblog. I think of stuff all the time but by the time I'm sitting at my computer I've forgotten all of it.

Looks like we should have made reservations earlier. Best Western in 29 Palms was down to rooms with two doubles. That's what we finally choose. But we did consider Joshua Tree Inn and Oasis of Eden Inn and Suites. Both look really interesting, but we went with safe for this trip. We can take a look at those other places and maybe stay there on a future trip.

We leave for Joshua Tree on friday and we still haven't made reservations. We can't quite figure out where to stay. One possibility is just staying at the Best Western in Twentynine Palms. It's safe but perhaps too boring.

I've just cut over to using Radio as my primary site maintenance tool. [Deadly Bloody Serious]
Cool. But now I've got to change my links :)

Anyone who has read even a miniscule amount about the Pacific War understands that Japan was forced to surrender for a number of reasons...
[Jonathon Delacour Unplugged]
I'm afraid Jonathon has forgotten perhaps the biggest reason the Japanese surrendered. The Russians were invading from the north. People in the US (and I don't think Jonathon lives in the US, so he's not guilty of this) tend to forget that. Heck, the Russians still posses some islands north of Hokkaido and they won't give them back.

I knew that Wil Wheaton had a website but I didn't know it was a weblog as well. Pretty cool. Another famous weblog I visit often is this one (careful clicking on that one, it may not be appropriate for children).
