There are a lot of people weblogging about their weight loss experiences. I've always had a problem with my weight. About a year and a half ago I was up over 210. I think that was probably as big as I've ever been. I'd probably be even bigger now if I hadn't done something about it. About that time my wife told me about a Japanese doctor's theory that the human body is better off not eating anything before noon. A Japanese news program was following several overweight people who were trying to use that theory to lose weight. Those who stuck to the "no breakfast" diet did lose weight and one person in particular lost quite a bit. I decided to try it myself. I should point out that skipping a meal was not something I really thought I could do. I usually ate breakfast about 6:30 or 7 in the morning and by 11:00 I'd feel like I was going to pass out. And I mean that literally. So I was pretty sure I couldn't just skip breakfast. But the plan was to switch to eating only a bowl of fruit in the morning and nothing else until noon. Of course, I filled a heaping bowl with fruit and ate the whole thing. And I did struggle until noon. But somehow I stuck to the plan. And I started to lose weight. After I lost about ten pounds I started to get excited and decided to try not eating anything at all until noon. Surprisingly, I was able to do that without passing out. And my weight loss accelerated. After about six months of not eating before noon, I was down into the 160's. That was a loss of about 50 pounds. I was amazed. I've been trying to control my weight for my entire life. But never with this much success. I realized that the reason was the simplicity of the plan: "Don't eat before noon". It was a rule I could follow. Now I've added riding my bike to and from work, so I'm quite a bit healthier than I was two years ago.

I don't know if the "don't eat before noon" is something others could use to lose weight, but I'd be curious to hear whether or not it works.

Is Bush unbeatable in 2004 election?: Very interesting. I guess I knew that Hillary has her eye on the whitehouse. Maybe she could actually win in 2008. Who would run against her? Dick Cheney?

Not that that would ever get MS to love the Web, I don't think it's in their genes. [Scripting News]

Aha. Microsoft hates the web. That does make sense. They probably wish it would go away. It's making their lives a living hell. Of course, they are making a lot of money either way. But I don't think MS has ever really gotten the web. They just treat it like something else to bend to their will.

A lot of people probably think southern California is really warm year-round. It's not. The winters are quite cool. Especially at night. The temperature difference between the day and night is large. Maybe that's why it feels so much worse than what I remember growing up in Ohio. A cold day in Cincinnati might by twenty degrees below zero. In San Diego the coldest day might be in the thirties. Much warmer. But it feels colder to me. I hate the winter and always look forward to warm spring and summer days.

What a glorious day for a bike ride. We are having some kind of super santa ana going on here in southern California. It's much warmer than usual. So I took advantage of it to ride my bike to work today. I was actually warm enough to bike in my shorts and t-shirt.
