Day 11 of TheBeard™:

I've done it. I am now RSS-feed free. I unsubscribed from all of my RSS feeds and I'll get my news the old-fashioned way. Electronically :)

I've just about convinced myself to take Burningbird's advice and turn off my news aggregator. That will mean that to get my news I'll have to do what I did in the old days and visit sites again. I never visit slashdot or MacNN anymore. I get their news in my aggregator. And I don't even need to visit Jonathon Delacour's cool site because his posts appear in my news aggregator as well. I must stop the madness.

If you've got this far, you'll realize that I'm a long-form blogger, as opposed to the short-form blogger that Dave appears to favor [Jonathon Delacour]

It's funny that Jonathon should be talking on this topic as I myself remarked earlier about his long posts. I wonder if Dave is really talking about Jonathon's weblog when he says that weblog entries should be short and sweet. I don't want Jonathon to shorten his posts, that is for sure. I do read his weblog in my news aggregator. In other words, I subscribe to his RSS feed. And I'm not going to unsubscribe because his posts are long. But I wouldn't mind if all I got in the aggregator was his headline. He can do that now. He could make every post a story and then post to his weblog that he has a new story. Then I'd get an item in my news from Jonathon that he has a new story, which could be as long as he'd like it to be.

Of course, Burningbird would say that I shouldn't be subscribing to Jonathon at all. I should be visiting his site to see his posts in their proper context. She's probably right.

My new "From Scratch" column for REALbasic Developer is like a weblog. I'm going to be describing the process of designing a REALbasic app, step-by-step. It'll be journal of the process.

Apple's iPhoto Downloads Top 1 Million [MacNN]: I'm not surprised. To me, iPhoto is Apple's most useful app. Even more useful than iTunes. I use iPhoto all the time. I've even orderd a book and last night I ordered 13 prints from our Joshua Tree vacation.

All that scratch makes my Xbox itch. Japan complaints [The Register]

Now MS is going to fix the problem. And fix it they should. My wife told me about this a couple of days ago. I'm glad MS is going to fix the problem. They really need to make a good first impression in Japan if they ever hope to compete in the game console space.

I'm hired! I'll be the new "From Scratch" columnist for REALbasic Developer. The magazine will be offered in print and pdf formats. I'm pretty excited. My column will explain how to create an app "from scratch" in six installments. I know what app I'm going to be building. It's a utility I've been thinking of writing for some time. More on that later :)
