This is funny. I've posted more than ten times today. But my desktop site only shows my last ten posts. And I've got a typo I want to fix in a post that is beyond my last ten posts. What am I supposed to do? I guess I could wait until midnight when my calendar should move over to the next day. Then I could click on the link for the 8th and get to all my posts. Or I could go to bed and not worry about it. That's what I'm going to do. Is this god's way of telling me that I post too much?

 Day 12 of TheBeard™. But Shannon suggests in a comment that it's looking more like Day 1 or Day 2 (or Day 0?). Thanks :) It is pretty thin. If it doesn't improve pretty quick here, I'm shaving it off. Well, I'll probably give it a few weeks to show me what it's got. But I'm expecting big things from it.

I just "discovered" the coolest app on Mac OS X I already knew about: Clock. I've known about Clock since my NeXT days. It sits in the dock and tells you the time. Big deal. But there's a preference to make it a transclucent floating window. In that mode it appears to float above everything on the screen. The translucency is settable. I have mine set to be almost completely see-through. I wonder how long it will take for me to get sick of it. In general, I don't like stuff like that getting in my way. By the way, for those who are curious, you should be able to find the clock app in your Applications folder.

I guess I'm trying to say that a story's narrator may not be the story's author. But we often think that if the narrator or main character of a story believes something or does something we don't like, then the author of that story must be guilty of believing or doing the same things.

Apparently Heather lost here job for this, but before you jump to the conclusion that she's a racist (an easy conclusion to jump to), you should probably also read this. And if you really want to see some racist, hate-filled stuff, watch South Park. It's one of my favorite shows. But I don't think it advocates racism or hate. Quite the opposite. But if you think racist content equals racism, then what do you think is the best way to show how stupid racism is without including racist themes in your story.

My weblog really takes a long time to load. That's because the default (and suggested) setting for "How many days on the home page" is 7. That's probably a good idea. Let people see a week's worth of posts. But I guess I post a lot. And with all of TheBeard pictures it really takes too long to load. So I've dropped the "days" to 3. If people want to see more they can use the calendar.

Jonathon Delacour's very well written posts now seem entirely appropriate in length. Just a few days ago I was complaining that they were too long. They aren't too long at all. I was falling into that kind of thinking because of RSS feeds. They made me want short-and-sweet posts that fit nicely in my news aggregator. Maybe with a link to take me to something interesting. Without the news aggregator I am free to visit Jonatho's site and see the post as it was intended to be seen. I'm beginning to think we (whoever "we" is) should start an anti-news-aggregator movement. The news aggregator is seductive, but evil. We should avoid its temptations. It's way is easy and cheap, but ultimately far less rewarding than taking the time to visit a site and see what the author's whole person. Yes. If a weblog is the whole person, then posts in the news aggregator are just bits and pieces. Just eyes or hands, cut off and lying on a slab for our inspection. It's gross, I tell you.

One really good thing about getting rid of RSS feeds is that there is now no difference between sites that have RSS feeds and those that don't. Before a lot of my news came in through my news aggregator. But there were sites that don't have a feed that aI like to visit. So there was this really awkward disconnect between the sites I visit and my news aggregator. That's gone now.

Now that I no longer get my news from an RSS feed, I'll need to aggressively add sites to my blogrolls. There are a bunch of places I visit that aren't there right now.
