The Mirror Project is a growing community of like-minded individuals who have photographed their likenesses in a variety of reflective surfaces. [The Mirror Project]

Now I'm gonna want to take my picture in a mirror so I can contribute.

I lucked out. While I was out our cat had diarrhea. My wife had to clean it up. Sweet.

But I am worried about our cat. He's been having a problem with diarrhea lately. It may be time for another trip to the vet.

Had I owned a Britney Spears Barbie, all of my other Barbies would have been lesbian Barbies. [dooce.com]

dooce.com comes through again with another great quote.

I got tired of complaining about OmniOutliner not having OPML capability, so I hacked a quick AppleScript to make it happen. [Jarret House North]

Cool. I was just asking for OPML support for OmniOutliner a few posts ago. Here it is!

Googlewhack! (Screen shot.) [Scripting News]

I'm sorry. But that is not a Googlwhack. Here's what you need for a Googlewhack:

Your goal: find that elusive query (two words - no quote marks) with a single, solitary result!

If you're viewing this page on a MAC and see anything funky, I'd appreciate your letting me know [jenett.radio]

It looks great to me. I'm looking at it with IE5 on Mac OS X. Thanks.

Though I disagree with a good deal of what Mr. Fenn has to say, his weblog makes me think about religion and rights. He claims that a religion should be around for, say, 100 years before it can be called a religion. It is an interesting proposal. I'm not sure I care, though. I've always been deeply suspicious of organized religion. Most religions require a belief in the supernatural, and I have never been able to suspend my disbelief. I think the natural universe is magical enough. I don't need to make it supernatural.

I have, though, gotten to the point where I can tolerate organized religion. Most likely in the same way that Mr. Fenn has gotten to the point where he can tolerate non-Catholics.

OmniOutliner is looking pretty cool. I like the fact that you can export an outline as HTML or as a MORE 3.1 document. You should be able to export as OPML as well. I trust that's in Omni Group's todo outline.

By the way, MORE works just fine on Mac OS X. It runs in the classic layer without a hitch. Cool.

So what's so cool about an outline? It hierarchically structures information. In an outline I can create a heading and under that heading I can put a world of information. And then I can collapse the heading and all the information under it is tucked away for safe keeping. The heading is all I need to remind myself that I have more information waiting for me. If I need to get to the information, I can just pop open the heading and there it is.

Outlines are recursive, which is a natural way to think. A heading in an outline is just a container for other headings.

We work with outlines all the time. File systems are outlines. Python program are outlines. XML documents are outlines.

A weblog (like any website) is an outline, both in its internal structure of months, days, and posts, as well as its forest of links to other weblogs. My weblog contains a list of other weblogs I like to visit. Visiting one of those weblogs is like popping open a heading in an outline. Inside will be many links to other weblogs.

In case you didn't know, MORE was written by Dave Winer, whose interest in outliners continues today in Manila and Radio. And if next week's announcement is what I think it is, then outliners may again become a very big deal on the Mac.

The Omni Group has a new version of OmniOutliner. Why aren't there more good outliners out there. One of the best outliners continues to be MORE 3.1, and you can get it for free. Recently, on the REALbasic mailing list, somebody asked "does anybody remember MORE?" It was cool to see how many people responded with "remember it, I still use it!"

I haven't tried MORE on Mac OS X. I'm betting it still runs perfectly, but I'm giving it a try as we speak. Back with the results in a minute.

Steve Jobs was right when he said "most people want to be honest, and if offered reasonable choices, most people will choose to buy their content." [O'Reilly Network]

I think it's pretty obvious that the music industry has missed (and is missing) a golden opportunity to revolutionize music distribution. They should have worked with Napster, not against it. Now they will lose to Gnutella.

Centuries-Old Longitude Clock Runs Again: They don't make 'em like they used to! I remember leafing through a copy of Longitude at the bookstore once and it looked very interesting. It didn't occur to me that the clock would still be around. And still be working, for that matter.
