Here is a page at discovery.com that considers how the Ark of the Covenant may have been a primitive battery. comment ()  4:21:57 PM  #   I just watched Raiders of the Lost Ark with my kids (11 and 7) and now I know how my parents must have felt watching movies with me. They ask questions throughout the movie. There's so much they don't understand. I think it's probably because they have no practice watching movies. We don't let them watch much TV. So, and I do think this is related, they have a great ability to amuse themselves. They can make up games and such without any input from us. But they can't watch movies. They have trouble understanding where the movie is taking them. comment ()  4:01:00 PM  #   Roger Ebert reviews The Shawshank Redemption. Did you know it was based on a Stephen King story? So many movies have been based on King stories. Some are stories you know right away King wrote, like The Shining. Others, like Stand by Me aren't so obviously King. comment ()  10:42:41 AM  #   I watched a bit of the Shawshank Redemption last night. I've never seen the whole movie from beginning to end. I have seen bits and pieces of it, though. I'd always thought I'd seen the end, but last night I managed to get into it early enough to realize that what I always thought was the end wasn't. So this time I watched all the way to the end. I'm glad I did. It's an even better ending than what I thought was the end. comment ()  10:33:24 AM  #   Like everyone else I heard about Yahoo's change in policy about opting-out for marketing messages, but until now I didn't know where I had to go to do that. Thanks to Eugene Leitl for posting the pointer. Very clear. I'm turning them all off. [Scripting News] I went there and turned everything off several days ago and I swear I'm now getting more spam. Could it be a trick? One of the tricks spammers love is to send out a spam with instructions as to how to stop getting any more of their spam.
