soul mate
There was this great line on Six Feet Under. A Rabbi tells Nate that a soul mate makes you be the best you you can be. I never thought about it that way. I always thought of a soul mate as somebody you can talk to easily. Or perhaps somebody to whom you want to tell everthing you are thinking. dictionary.com defines it like this: One of two persons compatible with each other in disposition, point of view, or sensitivity.
That may be true. But I think the Rabbi might be right, and if she is, then a soul mate might not necessarily be easy to talk to. A soul mate might frequently say things you don't want to hear. But you have to hear them to become the best you you can be.

Teaching Chuckles to sleep through the night is much like teaching him to speak English in complete sentences. Although we're trying to figure out how to function on less than three hours of consecutive sleep per night, Jon and I are sure that the pain will all be worth it when Chuckles is finally accepted at Harvard.

Pamela
I'm working on Pamela, an Instant Outliner client. I know I said I'd work on Lua, but I really wanted to see if I could get an IO client going. I've got it getting the file from the http server, parsing the results (with my own simple XML parser - that pretty much worked as is), and displaying it in a hierarchical listbox. But I'm kind of not liking the way instant outlining works. Unless I really don't get how this stuff is supposed to work, it appears that the opml file is just sitting on the http server ready GET. But I have to GET the whole thing. What if it's really big. I really wish I could get just parts of it. Perhaps it could be some kind of folder structure. That way I could get just the parts I want. The archive, for example, could be left on the server and I'd just get the new stuff.

up too late
I stayed up way too late last night. I need to get to sleep earlier. I just can't quite bring myself to get into bed. Tonight I will go to sleep early. Right after Six Feet Under. I haven't had a lot to say about Six Feet Under in the last few weeks. It is still outstanding. But since I've been watching now for several months, it isn't as new as it used to be. There's a lot of good stuff going on, though. Well worth watching. And The Sopranos has really gotten a lot better after one not-so-great season. Actually, I'm just watching reruns. I never saw any of the currently-running episodes. I don't think the real season starts for a few more months.

Lua plug-in for REALbasic
I've been reminded that my next big project should be my Lua plug-in. Lua is a really cool scripting language. It is very easy to get Lua running on pretty much any platform as it is written in easily-ported ANSI C. I got it building for the Mac and decided to write a Lua development environment in REALbasic called Stella (get it ... Stella Lua). More recently I released just the Lua plug-in so people could write their own Lua development environment. There's just one problem. For technical reasons I do not yet support Lua I/O in my Lua plug-in. It's gonna take some work to get that working. So I guess I should just roll up my sleeves and, well, you know...
