I've done it. I am now RSS-feed free. I unsubscribed from all of my RSS feeds and I'll get my news the old-fashioned way. Electronically :)

I've just about convinced myself to take Burningbird's advice and turn off my news aggregator. That will mean that to get my news I'll have to do what I did in the old days and visit sites again. I never visit slashdot or MacNN anymore. I get their news in my aggregator. And I don't even need to visit Jonathon Delacour's cool site because his posts appear in my news aggregator as well. I must stop the madness.

If you've got this far, you'll realize that I'm a long-form blogger, as opposed to the short-form blogger that Dave appears to favor [Jonathon Delacour]

It's funny that Jonathon should be talking on this topic as I myself remarked earlier about his long posts. I wonder if Dave is really talking about Jonathon's weblog when he says that weblog entries should be short and sweet. I don't want Jonathon to shorten his posts, that is for sure. I do read his weblog in my news aggregator. In other words, I subscribe to his RSS feed. And I'm not going to unsubscribe because his posts are long. But I wouldn't mind if all I got in the aggregator was his headline. He can do that now. He could make every post a story and then post to his weblog that he has a new story. Then I'd get an item in my news from Jonathon that he has a new story, which could be as long as he'd like it to be.

Of course, Burningbird would say that I shouldn't be subscribing to Jonathon at all. I should be visiting his site to see his posts in their proper context. She's probably right.
