No doubt the women who are speaking have valid points to make, and experiences with sexism that are real. But that does not justify shutting out an entire gender from the discussion. It's totally unfair and it's not even pragmatic. If you won't listen to others, if you won't even include us in the conversation, you shouldn't expect much in the way of help. [Scripting News]
There is a debate raging on several weblogs about sexism and barriers. The fact that that quote can appear on a weblog means that an entire gender is not being shut out of that discussion.
Only women bloggers may post to Blog Sisters. How is that any different than my weblog. Only I can post to my weblog. What about Scripting News? Only Dave can post there. Seems like we all have rules for who can post to our weblogs. How could I have a problem with that? The discussion we should be interested in is the one that occurs inter-blog, not intra-blog. Thanks to the internet and software like Radio and Blogger and Moveable Type anybody can have a voice in the discussion. Nobody is shut out.
I have a lot of respect for Dave and the things he's doing (I registered and am using his software, after all), but I just don't understand some of the comments he's been making on this topic. In particular, I have a problem with his calling Shelley sexist. I have never read anything she's written that would make me think that. I cannot say the same about Dave.
