weblogs & instant outlining
The problem I see with instant outlining is that it isn't instant messaging in the sense that, say, AOL Instant Messaging or email is. I can't really send a message to Dave. He'd have to be subscribed to my outline before he'd even see my "messages". But with email I can send an email to Dave. He'd probably throw it away, of course. That's not a slam at Dave. He probably gets so much email every day that he has to decide what to look at and what to throw away. But I'd still know that he had to deal with it one way or another. But with IO, as with weblogs, it can be hard to become part of the community. Once you do, though, your in.
