Maybe a diary of REALbasic app development. Maybe just stuff about REALbasic. Maybe nothing :)

I'm getting the source for Lua Plugin ready for release. One issue I've been debating is whether or not to release the parts of the Lua source and the REALbasic Plugins SDK that I need to build the plugin. I don't like the idea of releasing something that can't be built "of of the box". But I'm a little worried that I'm not really allowed to distribute the source. I'm pretty sure I can distribute the Lua source in pretty much any form I want as long as I label it. But the RB plugins SDK is another matter. I know that Thomas Tempelmann has a modified version of the SDK that he distributes, so it is probably ok for me to distribute it as well. I have a couple of modifications to the source to make it compileable under CW 7. But I think I've decided not to distribute the source to either Lua or the SDK and instead I'll provide information on where to get the source and what to do with it to compile the plugin.

A new REALbasic magazine is being launched called REALbasic Developer. I may be crazy, but I applied to write the "From Scratch" column, which will take an app from scratch to completion in six columns. I've had an idea for a utility for some time. I call it ShipIt!. It would manage the information for an app (author, title, description, etc.) and generate all of the components for a release using that information and templates. Components would include a readme, a user guide, website pages, and an email announcement to mailing lists. Building all of those components is quite tedious and I'd really like an app to do it for me. I think such an app would be simple enough that it could be built in six columns. That's my bet, anyway.
