We have just purchased the Heartsome translation suite (running on Mac OSX) and I am going to try and jot down comments, etc. as I go along. We have been running the software for nearly a month now and my overall reaction is positive. Advantages of Heartsome over other packages (e.g. Trados, Deja Vu, Wordfast,...).
1. Its native formats are the industry standards: XLF, XML and TBX.
2. It is very flexible as regards the underlying database (i.e. it can interface to MySQL, Firebird,... - even Oracle). This means that a "server" version can cost "zero" rather than several thousand euro.
3. It is multiplatform (Mac OS X, Windows, Linux). It does this by running in Java.
Drawbacks:
1. It needs to import files into the XLF format (and then export when finished). This adds some steps to the workflow.
2. The software works well but is still under development. This could actually be seen as an advantage as the support staff are very helpful and user requests can be added to the application within a few weeks.
