Problems with CMS. The Problems with CMS Quote: "There's plenty of criticism of content management systems (CMS). Discovering what bothers us most can... [elearnspace blog] Just good to see what folks feel toward their cms. I wish they said which one's they were responding to. Cost, customization or lack there of, ease of use, integration, migration and portability issues were some of the big problems. and Looking at open source cms solutions, one gets the feeling that design and the gui were not high on the priority list for regular folks. I showed my brother, who is a tech savvy socialworker ( http://www.lswo.org ), some open source cms solutions that he may like to use with his organization and an Asian social work network he is helping to get online, as well. He checked over some of them and he didn't understand them or they were butt ugly. He did like Mambo because the interface looked "professional". To be honest, some of the cms solution look like a replication of "ScourceForge" with a few enhancements.

Some basic rules for developers: Keep it Simple Stupid rules! Use focus groups. If folks do not get that "ah ah" after a walk through...I think one is in trouble. Documentation is important. If you think highly of your software, make it relatively easy to install and provide basic accurate directions. Get someone to handle the gui and workflow aspects of the cms package.
