TiVo and Brittney: Apparently Adam Curry: CurryDotCom] (yes, that Adam Curry) thinks this is a case of Big Brother. He even provides a nefarious link to TiVo's corporate partners. Ohhh, how EVIL!
Hogwash.
In Feb 2002, the reality is that a very real Big Brother, in the true sense of the word, is eroding our privacy and freedom at an alarming rate. Bush, Ashcroft, and his cronies are getting no resistance. That, my friends, is Big Brother.
A group of consumers who choose, of their own free-will and under full disclosure, to pay a monthly fee for a product that aggregates their viewing behavior with other customers is not "Big Brother". This isn't a surprise to any TiVo customer, just a couple of weeks ago the company sent a message to every subscriber reminding them of this policy.
I am a very satisifed TiVo customer. This is not a big deal to me, if it were, I wouldn't pay for the service. I'm not, however, a very satisfied US voter. Let's not worry fiddle while Rome burns, eh?
And for the record, I didn't rewind to see the Brittney ads again. As cute as Brittney is, I'm a loyal Coca-Cola customer.
