Hmmm, related to the death of PGP, is it merely a coincidance that NAI is bailing out just when Ashcroft is complaining about encryption? (The Register)

It's a bummer that Network Associates is killing off PGP. (link) I've used it since about 1993 or so. NAI added a very useful PGPdisk companion program a few years back, but the rest of PGP remained hard to use, and worse yet, hard to explain.
They also frustrated me as a customer. They made it so hard to upgrade and find the latest version. They changed their pricing structure in a way that it made more sense for me to buy another copy then upgrade my existing one. They made me jump through too many hoops with placing an order and calling customer service. Heck, it was virtually impossible to even find PGP Personal Edition on their web site.
Eventually I just stopped caring. Apparently, so did the higher-ups at the company. The whole story here would make a good case study in software and product development.
