At least the beer was good.
A nice warm, sunny, California day in downtown San Jose. Stopped at Gordon Biersch for lunch. First time I've been there, and probably the last. (That's called foreshadowing.)
The outdoor patio is nice, but not shaded enough so it was a little hot. Shouldn't be a problem at a brewery tho, just keep the beer coming and we'll be fine. (You'd think the waitrons would exploit this.)
We ordered beer, sandwiches, and some "famous" garlic fries for an appetizer. The sandwiches arrived in just minutes, sans beer (or water). Also missing were the fries. So much for properly staging the arrival of the food.
The super-fast sandwhich delivery means they were pre-pepared, and it showed. The wet vinegar-and-cucumber side garnish had leaked all over one of the plates, soaking into the bread. Back to the kitchen it went. Which allowed time for our beer to finally arrive. We were parched, the beer was good.
The sandwich situation was resolved, but our fries (the appetizer, remember?) still arrived still minutes later. They were OK, I'm sure that if we had more beer we'd be more appreciative.
I tried to get a waiter to bring me another beer, but none was in sight. (They weren't that busy, I suspect they were all inside cooling off.) When I finally did find one, frustrated, I demanded the check instead. When it finally arrived, I help him captive while I inspected the total and got out my credit card.
I was very happy to be able to leave. The Marzen beer was good, could have had at least one more, but the mediocre food and poor service drove me away. Too bad, for them.
