Line-ending Hell

aarrgh! Every single time I delve into some Perl, Python, or other programming that uses the Unix heart of Mac OS X, I end up struggling with line ending problems. Lots of sample code from the 'net comes down with DOS lines, and the stuff I create by default is with Macintosh-style endings. Both of which totally choke up Perl, et al. I don't have a lot of hair to spare, and I'm tired of pulling it out over this simple problem. When will I learn?
