Rendezvous and iChat at the O'Reilly Mac OS X Conference
Over at Boing Boing, Cory
writes about using iChat at the Mac OS X Conference. He's totally
right, it was great to see all the ad hoc (and very useful) chatting
going on, all courtesy of the Con's wireless cloud and Rendezvous.
Case in point, Adam Engst and I had pre-arranged, via email, to get
together for a chat sometime during the event. Tuesday afternoon I was
at a session that wasn't holding my interest (which didn't happen often
at this conference) so I popped open my PowerBook and looked in iChat's
Rendezvous window. Sure enough, Adam was online somewhere nearby. So I
sent him an IM, learned his location, and wandered over to say hello.
We'd never met in person, and iChat/Rendezvous made it much easier to
arrange.
For those not at the Con, here are a couple of screen shots showing a
typical Rendezvous list. You can see what Cory mentioned, folks
communicating their locations via their availability messages.
