My fifth TiVo
TiVo users are second only to Mac owners in their enthusiasm for the
product. You've heard it before, but it's true, TiVo totally changes
the way you watch and think about television. It is a fabulous thing.
However, I just installed my fifth (yes, 5th) unit. They keep going
belly-up with various hardware failures. My last one lasted almost two
years, but this week its modem died. Without a modem, it's useless,
since it needs to dial-in to retrieve all the program data.
Since it was a small (14 hour) unit, this failure was a good excuse to
get a larger-capacity unit. But I have my fingers crossed that this
"Series 2" model will be higher-quality than the string of "Series 1"
models I've gone through.
