A cheaper Bluetooth Adapter
I've been wanting to add Bluetooth to my PowerBook for a while now, I
find the technology very attractive and interesting, but I didn't want
to cough up $50 for a USB-BT adapter. Earlier this week, Keyspan came
out with a new adapter, but the price is about the same (and it's too
darn big, IMO).
But today in Fry's I found a $39 Bluetooth adapter made by "EPoX". It's
not the most
attractive thing in the world, but saving a little cash makes it
bearable. The packaging only talks about Windows, no mention of any
other OS.
Good news. It works perfectly on Mac OS X Jaguar. Just plug it in, open
System Preferences, then click Bluetooth. (Which magically appears as
soon as you plug-in the adapter.) Try not to feel smug as you ignore
the lengthy and convoluted Windows instructions, troubleshooting, and
driver installation. The damn thing just works under Mac OS X. Sweet.
