MSNBC has an article about why software is bad, and while I agree with a lot what's being said, something things are just incorrect. The author constantly interchanges security issues with bugs, and doesn't talk at all about bug severity; yes, we, software engineers often decided not to take a perf improvement, or change some confusing ui right before RTM, but that doesn't mean that crashes or data loss bugs will get punted. The piece describing the event loop seemed completely useless. The componentization explanation is weak, and is horribly applied to Gates’ court testimony. Also disappointingly, the article doesn’t go how software QA is done what so ever. It would have also been nice to contrast the difference between how code is written for NASA and code is written for a consumer.
