BBEdit is soooo cool Take this example: I usually work both with a laptop and a desktop. Usually my laptop is my main work machine, and the desktop a "testbed". Sometimes it's reversed, but whatever. Anyway, today I was doing work on my desktop machine and wanted to move the code over to my laptop. I wanted something easier then AppleTalk (too much overhead... save to a file, open it up, rinse, repeat), less stupid-feeling then email, etc. I thought about Instant Outlining it... but that requires Radio (and I only had a copy on the laptop) Ok, crap. What am I going to do. It's just a line or two of code I want to transfer. I need something easy... then the answer hit me. BBedit has this nice feature of, if a file you have open has changed, it will load the updated copy. (Yes, this gets confusing when you have unsaved changes... but you should know better then that anyway... (in that case it would ask you anyway)) So I used that feature. I created a "temp-transfer" text file and saved it on the fileserver. Opened it up with BBEdit on my desktop, and also on my laptop. Wahahaa! Now I can send clippings to the other machine. Sometimes the low-tech solutions are the really really cool ones!!!! |
