Apple Bug Friday: Finder's Show Status Bar menu item applies to all windows
I just submitted my entry for AppleBugFriday, a little inconstancy in the Finder ("gasp! say it isn't so!") I found today.

From the bug report: The Show Status bar item under the Finder's View menu is inconsistent with how the other operations in the View menu work

Steps To Reproduce:

  1. Open a new Finder window
  2. Toggle the Toolbar control on the upper right hand of the window to toggle this window into "hide sidebar" mode
  3. Create another Finder window, also in this mode
  4. Drag so the status bar of both windows is visible
  5. View -> "Hide Status Bar"

Expected Results: I expected that the status bar of only the frontmost window would be hidden.

Having the "Hide/Show Status Bar" menu operation apply to only the frontmost window is consistent with how the rest of the View menu works. In Detail:

  • View -> As Icons/As List/As Columns : Acts only on the frontmost window
  • View -> Clean up : Acts only on the frontmost window
  • View -> Arrange By... : Acts only on the frontmost window

So I was expecting only my frontmost window's statusbar would be hidden. Instead all my (toggled) window's status bars were hidden. This is inconstant, and frankly quite jarring.

Yes, I know this is more like AppleBugFridayWednesday, but it's as close to the mark as my post on a feature request for NetNewsWire
