Edit This Page, a free service offered by Userland Software is shutting down. (Actually this snuck up on me - I thought I had a month to migrate. Oh well.)

Since HelixNewbies is hosted there I have to find another home for it.

The Good Thing is I can get my data out in the form of a Manilla .root file.

The Bad Thing is that it's not something portable (RSS2.0 full text, OPML, or the XML format Radio uses). So while I have my data, technically, it'll be annoying to extract.

The Good Thing is that I have enough Frontier/Usertalk experience it won't be that hard to convert what I have into... something. (OPML[1]? something more portable?) I have all of my images, all of my stories, and all of my comments. I'll have to do some annoying stuff (like converting shortcuts), so it could be an adventure into the deep of Frontier's CMS.

The (Last) Bad Thing is, of course it comes at the end of the year - a time where I'd rather be doing End Of The Year stuff and wrapping up projects. Grrr.

The Good thing is that HelixNewbies will live on. I've got some long term ideas for the site, but pipe dreams currently. I'll put it somewhere That Won't Go Away very soon.

For you Manila/Radio Heads out there, I'll probably post my experiences or final script here, so keep tuned, weblog-land!

[1] The Advantage of OPML is that there's an XSLT document for it. I'm not fully convinced its the way to go yet though...
