Bush held up plan to hit Bin Laden The Bush administration sat on a Clinton-era plan to attack al-Qaida in Afghanistan for eight months because of political hostility to the outgoing president and competing priorities, it was reported yesterday. [Daypop Top 40]

Noelle Bush gets rehab, the poor and black get hard time. Fed up with draconian drug penalties, a coalition led by angry mothers is threatening to overturn some of the country's harshest laws. [Salon.com]

Bush's Conspiracy to Riot More than three decades apart, two political riots influenced the outcome of U.S. presidential elections. In 1968, protests at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago hurt Democrat Hubert Humphrey and helped Republican Richard Nixon eke out a victory. On Nov. 22, 2000, the so-called "Brooks Brothers Riot" of Republican activists helped stop a vote recount in Miami -- and showed how far George W. Bush's supporters were ready to go to put their man in the White House. [The Consortium On-Line]

If you believe this article -- and it is virtually entirely verifiable-fact-based -- the current president of the United States was not our legally elected leader, but rather the victor in a coup d'etat. You cannot read this article without getting angry. And you should be angry.

More On What's Fucked About Radio Commercial radio programming is not a service. It's bait. The listeners pay nothing to consume that bait, and have approximately zero influence over the kind of bait any station chums onto its airwaves. [Doc Searls Weblog]

Is privacy the next casualty? WASHINGTON--Sen. Mike DeWine is crusading to hand the FBI new powers to eavesdrop on immigrants and other non-citizens living in America. The Ohio Republican is proposing that police need only have a "suspicion" that someone has links to terrorism before being able to spy on that person or snoop through their home.[Daypop Top 40]

Pa. Judge Bars Woman From Having Abortion Lawyers representing Meyers called the order "a miscarriage of justice," while abortion opponents and fathers' rights groups praised it, saying men should have a say in the outcome of a pregnancy they helped create. [Daypop Top 40]

My opinion is, you get a vote in the outcome when you can carry the fetus to term. If you can't, you don't get a vote.

Joe Conason's Journal. Time investigation says the Bush administration ignored Clinton plans to stop al-Qaida. The White House denies the report -- but its credibility on the subject is poor. [Salon.com]

Police State? Too Late!. Wednesday, July 31, in a neighborhood on the west side of Buffalo, New York, Operation Clean Sweep descended. Without notification, a squad of various law enforcement officials invaded the neighborhood to catch people breaking the large variety of nit-picky laws with which we saddle ourselves, particularly in urban and suburban areas. Law enforcement and social services people went from door to door, inspecting people's houses and yards for violations. Supposedly, people had the right to deny entry to these people, but this is a poor neighborhood, with largely uneducated residents, who would be either afraid to refuse a search, or ignorant of their right to do so. Clear-Cutting the Radio Forest. Clear Channel Communications is changing the face of radio broadcasting, buying stations left and right, firing local DJs and replacing original programming with bland, formatted material. Nowhere is that more apparent than in San Diego. First of a three-part report by Randy Dotinga. [Wired News]
