Bennett has been a hypocrite for years. The revelation of his remarkable gambling habit just adds to the indictment. He was the drug czar, heading America's War on (Some) Drugs. That crusade, and its leaders, has always pretty much ignored the most addictive and destructive recreational drugs of all, tobacco and alcohol. But we live in a hypocritical society. Bennett reflects it more than most. [Dan Gillmor's eJournal]

The issue was, and remains, Bush's record of having skipped out on a year of duty while a member of the Texas Air National Guard in the early 1970s. The fact is that the men and women on that aircraft carrier did their duty, and that their current commander in chief did not. The men and women on the carrier have earned the praise of their nation. Their craven commander in chief used them that day as a prop for his re-election campaign. [Dan Gillmor's eJournal]
