Lambs to the slaughter. Tonight I ate at another of my local haunts, Taverna Steki. Only the Greeks understand how to cook lamb. While eating a complimentary dessert, I plunged into a protracted discussion with one of the owners about the refugee impasse, which is now starting to haunt me. I'm going to have to find some way to move forward from my current position, best characterized as: let's have lots more immigrants as long as we exercise tight control over who they are. I've already received one thought-provoking email about this. I'm open to more. Don't suggest that I might prefer Afghan lamb cuisine -- I've already thought of that.

Returned from my swim... considerably cooler. It occurred to me while I was plowing up and down the medium speed lane clutching a kickboard that blogging at the height of the Australian summer might constitute a health risk. I've noticed a marked increase in my body temperature since I started this blog and I suspect that only regular plunges in the pool have prevented me from spontaneously combusting. Winter won't be a problem -- I'm looking forward to a significantly lower heating bill. In spring and autumn, a cup of iced coffee at lunch time should be sufficient to return me to the normal range. But in summer, 30 minutes immersion in cold water is an essential component of my blogging day.

"Broadband" woes. I woke up to find myself in the same situation as Doc: with my ADSL down, using a dialup connection. At least I'm getting 52 Kbps.
