A complete East Coast bus service, between numerous competing bus companies, has grown up in Chinatown in the last two years. During this time there have been shootings, bus burnings, stabbings and such, culminating in a 44 shot shootout on Division Street that police think was bus company related.
This morning the police were out in force moving buses away from their normal bus stop on Forsythe/Eldridge between East Broadway and Division Street. I spoke to a reporter from one of the chinese dailies and he said he was told by the police that it was just a big bus safety inspection. I doubt it, as I strongly suspect that the police and the community want the bus companies shut down.
