Kotke is trying to organize his life. There's an interesting discussion on the topic. Several people have recommended going for chronological organization, which is how weblogs work. Weblogs archive all your stuff in the order you entered it into the system. So if you're looking for something you remember writting in January, just look through your weblog's January archives. Adding a search engine tool helps a lot too. Now, I believe this could be much more powerful (it could also get a whole lot more complicated). In Radio, for example, editing a post puts it right back into the past when you first wrote it. But perhaps we could add a new post with a note pointing to the edited link mentioning that an edit took place. So if you're looking for something you remember editing a few days ago you can still find it. Post "titles" -- something several people are asking for, and part of the RSS standard -- would also add flexibility to Radio. I have an idea for a "visual archive" that could really use titles: imagine a horizontally scrolling webpage displaying a whole month of weblog data. If you click on a title, the post's text displays. That's just the beggining of it, anyway; feel free to grab the idea and run with it. comment []
