Basal cell carcinoma, a type of Skin Cancer [WebMD].
"I had an appointment with the Dermatologist today, to check out something on my back. Mine was on the right side of my back, about a third of the way down. just below my shoulder blade. Right in the spot you can't really see or reach. Most likely from exposure 30 years ago as a teenager.
"Are you sure before the biopsy results are back?" "I've been a Dermatologist in Las Vegas for 25 years. I'm not 100% positive, more like 95%. But I've seen a bit of this and I'll be very surprised if the results are otherwise. The good news is — if you're going to get cancer, this is the kind to get."
I'm so relieved! sound of sphincter clenching (the dial goes to 11!)
1.53 cm x 1.56 cm. Simple excision and curettage. Lab results on Tuesday.
Me? I'm really fine, and that is not just whistling in the dark. This is Las Vegas, I like these percentages. But dunk your freakin' kids in sunblock, 'K?" [blivet]

"A spectacular panoramic image of the Eagle Nebula with the three Pillars of Creation at its heart has been snapped by a US telescope.
The nebula, located 7,000 light years from Earth in the constellation of Serpens, the Serpent, is a luminous cluster of stars surrounded by dust and gas. The Pillars were made famous in 1995, when images from the Hubble telescope revealed them in stunning detail. These columns of interstellar dust and gas are being sculpted by intense radiation from the hot stars in the cluster. The largest of the three Pillars is about four light years from base to tip. The new image, which covers more than 100 times the area of Hubble picture, was produced by the National Science Foundation's 0.9 metre telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory, Arizona.
