Wherein we learn of Howard's mind Sign of the timesOverheard at Milo's rain-soaked baseball game tonight. One kid asks another:"Do you have a mom or a step-mom?" Not something I would ever ever have asked in grade school. I wouldn't even have thought about it! CNET: Even Paul Allen hits investing headwinds
The failures have caused some investors to question the trend-spotting and moneymaking abilities of Allen, who started Seattle-based venture capital firm Vulcan Ventures and ranked as one of the four richest people in the world in the late 1990s. They say Allen's days as the de facto soothsayer of technology investing could be numbered. Since when has he ever been the de facto anything except the de facto luckiest man in the world (financially, anyway). I don't believe that even a quarter of the companies he's invested in has ever made money. If not for the ability for him to lean on his unprecedented Microsoft billions, he'd have sunk like a rock long ago. Any stature he has comes from standing on the shoulders of a giant. Soothsayer my ass!
