Jonah Goldberg: Pointless jihad dreaming

What's my point? Simple: These people are frickin' nuts. If they were allowed to drink booze, I'd say they were talking with their beer muscles. I know it's fun for these loons to imagine a bunch of Dervishes pouring into downtown Cleveland whirling their scimitars as we fat and spoiled Americans drop our Big Macs and run for our lives, but that will never, ever, happen.

Think of the "best case" scenario for these terrorists: The entire Muslim world rises up for a jihad against the United States. This what they wish for, right? Well, this alone qualifies them as idiots.

This is a hoot and a half. To wit:

This doesn't mean these daft murderers aren't dangerous. They are. But they are tactically dangerous. Strategically, they're cuckoo for Coca Puffs. They can blow up things and kill people. But their ultimate goal, victorious jihad against the "infidels," is no more likely to happen than the Hale-Boppers were likely to get picked up by an intergalactic shuttle bus.

Clock ticking for Arafat?

AP: Gunfire erupts at Arafat's compound as Israeli forces close in
Israeli tanks surrounded Yasser Arafat's office compound early Thursday after a Palestinian terrorist blew up a huge car bomb next to a bus in Israel's north, killing himself and 17 Israelis.

...and then this top story on MSNBC...

Arafat heir walks perilously fine line

Mohammed Dahlan His critics call him a spoiled, ruthless cheat who thrives on power. Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon says he is aiding and abetting terrorism. For his supporters, he is the embodiment of the Palestinian people’s hope and pain. But, if he plays his cards right, 41-year-old Mohammed Dahlan, a Palestinian refugee from Gaza, just might become the successor to Yasser Arafat.

... and all this agression is entirely unprovoked.

Mr. den Beste thinks it can't happen too soon:

Arafat is an active hindrance to the process. As long as he's alive, too many around the world will insist that any negotiation process must include him, and any negotiation that he is part of will be futile.

How Things Work

Think of this site as a radio call-in program that's being held on the WWW instead of the radio. If you ask how something works, using the button below, I'll try to provide an explanation.

Last night, I just kept reading and reading and reading the questions and answers. Here's one that would stump even the Car Talk guys:

Ever since someone struck and damaged the rear bumper of my SAAB 9-3, the air pressure inside the car has been unbearable to myself and passengers. It causes ear pain and nausea after around 15 minutes of driving. The only solution is to open the windows. Can you think of any structural aspect that may cause a problem like this?
