Teach the Children Well

A picture named cute_muslim_girl2.jpg
During a May 7 episode of Muslim Woman Magazine, anchorwoman Doaa 'Amer asks her special guest, a 3-year-old girl named Basmallah, a series of questions the youngster quickly and calmly answers.

"Are you familiar with the Jews?" Amer asks.

The girl says yes, and says she does not like them "because…they’re apes and pigs."

"Who said so?" the anchor asks. "Our God," the girl replies, adding that Allah says this "in the Quran."

Why America can't improve fuel economy

The really distressing thing about this article is not the lies that underpin the big 3 automaker's position on emissions, but the sense of hopelessness -- the can't do attitude. How dare American companies say they can't come up with a better mousetrap, a technological solution for an environmental, financial (balance of payments) and geopolitical problem like oil consumption. For them to say that improving fuel economy would hurt them, for them to shirk the challenge of solving these huge, huge problems through their own inventivness seems downright unAmerican to me.....

This reminds me of the kids in Little League who mope up to the plate thinking that -- of course -- they're not going to get a hit. Guess what? They're right. I think about my time at Microsoft, when we faced major challenges every day: technical, legal, sociological, economic. We may have raised objections, but no one could have gotten away with a mopy "We can't do it" attitude. Yes, it's likely that the world will come to screeching halt if we treat a Ford Explorer like a car rather than like a truck.
