UnitedLinux to be based on Debian?

UnitedLinux is widely viewed as an effort by second-tier Linux companies to gain the critical mass held by Linux leader Red Hat, but industry watchers are skeptical it will triumph.

Love will be able to work on hammering out membership agreements, development plans and other UnitedLinux details, he said. That includes trying to find a way to include members such as Debian or Slackware, which don't have the commercial focus of the current UnitedLinux partners.

If they made a distribution with the stability and ease-of-updating of Debian that was easy to install, they'd have a real winner. Unfortunately, I don't think there's much chance that the commercial/non-commercial rift can be bridged.

Qureshi shrugs off threat of sanctions by his own government

Qureshi's pairing with Hadad has drawn sharp reaction from the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), which has threatened to ban the player.

"The government will definitely approach this issue. As we don't have diplomatic relations with Israel, we don't recognize it," Tressler said earlier.

"But it would be premature to say what we can do. All I can say is that Aisam's decision to play with an Israeli was not morally correct."

Tressler said Pakistan did not believe in mixing sports with politics, and therefore, it supported sporting ties with arch-rivals India.

But he said that Israel was a sensitive issue for Pakistan.

"Aisam should have been careful, because no Pakistani will accept any relations with an Israeli," Tressler said.
