Republican Sinn Féin score community success in LigonielA PROPOSED project by Habitat for Humanity to open a road in the Mountain Hill estate in Ligoniel, North Belfast as part of a housing scheme brought objections from local residents living in Millview Court, Hazle Brook Drive, Bleach Green and Mill Bank Park.

Bin the Charges! From The Starry Plough Feb. 2002Fingal County Council last month voted by a margin of 13 votes to 10 to impose an average charge of up to E260 on householders throughout the area. This is a stealth tax that the Labour Government in London would have been proud of. Each time a householder puts out a standard sized wheelie bin for collection it must be accompanied by a bin tag costing E5 per tray.

Culture and Identity Billy MitchellDiscussion and debate about culture and identity has come more and more to the fore within the Unionist community in recent years. For many of us 'older generation' Unionists, who do not see 'culture' merely in terms of politics and religion, the discussion has been fairly comfortable to handle. For many of the younger generations of Unionists, who have grown up in an era where politics and religion are the defining elements of culture, the debate appears to be less straightforward.

The Finucanes
will have justice
This week marked the 13th anniversary of the assassination of solicitor Pat Finucane. Since his death, he has been well served by his family and friends. Today, the demands for a full independendent public inquiry into the circumstances of his killing are stronger than ever.
