Broad Front Needed in Segregation Fight!
From The Starry Plough
Jun. 2002

Prisoners are the only losers in this situiation

Republican Sinn Fein organised a meeting late in April at Conway Mill in Belfast to outline the current situation faced by Republican prisoners in Maghaberry prison, where they are living in constant danger as they are outnumbered by Loyalists intending to kill them. The meeting was well attended by people coming from different political organisations (RSF, 32CSM, IRSP, ORM, Sinn Fein, etc) genuinely concerned about the plight of prisoners, and it was agreed following the intervention of a representative of the IRSP that a new organisation independent of any political group would be set up to campaign on the sole issue of segregation for Republican prisoners. A follow up of that meeting was organised on 26 May 2002, but came to nothing following the refusal of the Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association to participate in a broad front for segregation.

It Is But Institutionalised Collusion
Davy Carlin

The development and indeed in part the stabilization of post conflict situations has shown on many occasions that slight elements of the truth battle to emerge despite a huge force weighted against it. Yet for many years this issue amongst others has been raised and battled for against established barriers set up and placed against it for obvious reasons.

Fulton was a chief suspect in Nelson's killing, and that of Sunday World journalist Martin O'Hagan.

The ABC of hatred
BY LAURA FRIEL

Understanding sectarianism in the North of Ireland is as easy as ABC. Within the prevailing discourse, sectarian hatred is often portrayed as the inexplicable in the hands of the indefensible. It is deemed outside civic society, a 'beyond the pale' barbarity left over from another era.

Higher walls no protection

As Gerry Adams met US Special Envoy to the north of Ireland, Richard Haas, yesterday, Wednesday 12 June, he delivered yet again Sinn Féin's message on policing: the Patten Report must be implemented in full, and the party will not settle for its dilution.
