A radical alternative for a health service Patricia CampbellAs growing concerns for the National Health Service (NHS) take hold, it has emerged that the health services in the 6-Counties are not only the worst in the UK, they are the worst in Western Europe. It is an extremely worrying development as we are all potential users of the health service. The most widely quoted definition of health is that presented in the constitution of the World Health Organisation. (WHO) [base "]Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being[per thou]. It is important to acknowledge that health and health promotion can only be understood as part of the social contexts in which people exist.

E.U. Surveillance of Telecommunications Aine Fox Other View Summer 2002The E.U. have accepted an amendment to a directive on accepting data retention and surveillance by the law enforcement agencies. The 1997 E.U. Directive on privacy in telecommunications states that data can be retained by billing purposes and then must be erased. It does however facilitate the interception of communications on a controlled level where specific authorization in the form of a court order (other means such as secretary of state approval) had been obtained.
