Double Reverse Blogrolling with a Half TwistWhich one is it. I have wondered for quite a while now what is up with Sinn Fein, and these two articles neatly summarize the two sides I'm debating: is the Provisional Republican Movement a bunch of bullies who have long since abandoned any republican principles in the pursuit of raw power? Are we seeing now in the Six Counties what we would have seen in 1972 if the Provos hadn't split from the Stickies? Are Sinn Fein supporters a bunch of sheep that will believe anything Gerry Adams tells them? Or is Sinn Fein still focused on the republican goal? Is the apparent collaboration with the British and the Unionists something that's necessary to buy time while enthusiasm for reunification is rebuilt in the 26 Counties? Only time will tell. Hopefully it's the second one, because if it's the first one by the time that's apparent to a large number of people republicanism may be sunk.Out Of The Ashes Of Armed Struggle Arose The Stormontistas And They Fought Ö Ardoyne Youth. Anthony McIntyre From The Blanket One of the certainties in politics is the certainty of egg on your face if you believe in too many of them. What certainty could be built on the founds of a politician's word? It is a safer bet to find wisdom in the old joke that you can always tell a politician is lying when you see his or her lips move. Yet in spite of this there are some trends which have such consistency that they resemble the gravitational pull applied to Newton's apple. And nothing is more certain than that the pull of the RUC structure will prove irresistible to Sinn Fein which will fall like an apple right into the rotten barrel it for so long railed against. The choice for the party merely lies in which model to opt for - Peter Mandleson's RUC or Chris Patten's RUC. Hardly a life or death choice that will cause party leaders serious hand wringing or deep soul searching into the small hours. [The Badger's Radio Weblog] Beyond the road map: Preparing for power. From AP/RN Sinn Féin's Declan Kearney delivered the main address at the John Joe McGirl commemorative weekend earlier this month. In a thought-provoking contribution, he addressed the crucial issue of republican strategy for the achievement of a United Ireland. "To subvert the tyranny of our execrable government, to break the conmnection with England, the never failing source of all our political evils and to assert the independence of my country - these were my objects. To unite the whole people of Ireland, to abolish the memory of all past dissentions and to substitute the common name of Irishmen in place of denominations of Protestant, Catholic and Dissenter - these were my means."
