Stupid Sinn Fein Kevin RaybouldThings were actually moving forward, a bit. The power sharing government had given Catholics a voice in their own affairs - and one that people actually felt was effective. Now this: BELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) - Britain will strip power from local Catholic and Protestant politicians on Monday night and resume sole responsibility for running Northern Ireland, the British governor announced. Why?Four people, including Sinn Fein's top legislative aide, are behind bars awaiting trial for espionage-related charges following police raids Oct. 4. The suspects are accused of stealing documents from Reid's office that allegedly include details of potential IRA targets and records of talks between Britain and other key parties. If this is true - and, lets remember, the British have put innocent people in jail for terrorism - then Sinn Fein and the IRA are run by morons, particularly Sinn Fein. [Lean Left]

The edge of the abyss...again Brendan O'Neill'It might seem that Northern Ireland's experiment with power-sharing is always hanging by a thread [and] permanently on the brink of the abyss', says BBC Ireland correspondent Kevin Connolly. 'But this time, let there be no mistake - the thread is thinner and the abyss a little deeper.' [spiked]

Belfast on the brink again Tommy McKearneyThere is a real fear in the north that the current outbreak of rioting in Belfast might lead to an even greater round of trouble. Unlike occasions over the past four or five years when it was possible to say that a small group of UDA/LVF hardliners were attempting to gain organisational advantage over their loyalist rivals, it appears that the latest outbreak involves those ostensibly supporting the Good Friday Agreement. People have been shot and wounded in exchanges of gunfire and little secret is being made of the fact that both the Provisional IRA and the UVF have been involved in the shootings. [Fourthwrite]

Full of Sound and Fury Aine FoxCrowds gathering and scuttling in and around the Ulster Hall in Belfast; the media stalling about outside the front doors to capture that photograph or those few words with the politicians of the hour. At 7:30 pm, as advertised, Sinn Fein delegates and supporters filled the Ulster Hall. The choice of venue was ironic. Instantly I was thinking back to Paisley's stance alongside Ulster Resistance within the same hall that Sinn Fein now were calling - 'Save the Peace Process.' [The Blanket]

Surviving Adair Jim GibneySo, after 30 years, Johnny Adair is persona non grata to the UDA. What, you may be wondering, has brought about this dramatic outcome, perhaps one of the biggest developments in loyalism since the UVF and UDA ceasefires in late 1994? [AP/RN]

More violence predicted as UDA splits Laura FrielOf one thing northern nationalists can be certain. As with the wrangle within unionism in which David Trimble finally surrendered to the anti-Agreement lobby within his own ranks last week, the current bitter and bloody feuding between loyalist paramilitaries will also end with Catholics picking up the price tag.
