British collusion with the Death Squads Owen O'NeillIt now appears that what many republicans have long known to be true - widespread collusion between the Crown Forces and Loyalist death squads - is about to be verified in public. The Irish Times and the Guardian carried article on Friday 14 June outlining the findings of the Stevens report into the murder of human rights lawyer Pat Finucane and both newspapers claim that collaboration was extensive. Even though it is likely that the final report will seem much milder when published (per-publication leaking of somewhat exaggerated findings allowing the culprit to later claim that earlier reports were untrue is a routine British Government practice), it does look likely that British undercover operations in the North will be severely castigated. These organisations will probably not now survive intact. [Fourthwrite]
