If OnlyIF only the arms had arrived. If only the rest of the country had risen with Dublin. If only Collins hadn't signed the Treaty in London. If only. [Danny Morrison, dannymorrison.com]

Bernadette McAliskeyI'm incommunicado in Mexico for a few days and look what happens.Bernadette McAliskey came to the US on a routine trip last Friday, Feb 21, and was unexpectedly detained and then deported upon her arrival. What Price For Britain's Support?Bernadette McAliskey was recently denied access to the US, but not until after she had already flown all the way to Chicago. Mrs. McAliskey is a great woman who virtually personified the anger and despair that Irish Nationalists felt at the start of the Troubles. She was, and still is, a source of inspiration and motivation for people who have felt oppression in Northern Ireland, and a lot of people are greatly
worried about the message that her expulsion has sent to Irish Republicans
and those who support Irish Nationalism. [Terry McMenamin, Fenian Ramblings]

A very British CoupRecent happenings in the world of Ulster Loyalism leave one with a strange feeling that there was more manipulation of the outcome than meets the eye. The chain of events that has led to the death of the powerful UDA figure John Gregg and the subsequent flight into exile of the Shankill Road's hard-line 'C' Company are reminiscent of a fast moving B-Movie. While it is still much too early to predict either a definite end to the feud or a new and less blood-thirsty departure for the UDA, the
largest loyalist group is now faced with re-evaluating its old strategy of
violent aggression coupled with an aversion to conventional politics. [Tommy
McKearney, Fourthwrite]

Free Inigo Makazaga from Belmarsh GaolThe Irish Republican Socialist Party has spoken out regarding the case of Iñigo Makazaga, an activist within the Basque student movement and a member of the Basque republican party. Makazaga, who served on Herri Batasuna's local committee in his Vitroria-Gasteiz community, was falsely charged in February 1996 with
sabotage offenses as part of the Spanish governments ongoing attack on
Basque activists. He was arrested and jailed, during which time he was
subjected to physical abuse and torture. To escape further threat to his
freedom and physical well being, Makazaga left the Basque lands and sought
refuge in Britain under an assumed identity. He was arrested in Dover in
April of 2001 on an extradition warrant from Spain, which claimed he was a
member of the ETA. [The Starry

An Address to the People of IrelandEighty-one years after the partition of Ireland in 1922, and almost five years after the Stormont Agreement of 1998, Republican Sinn Féin, on the basis of a resolution passed at our annual Ard-Fheis held in October, 2002, wishes to address the Irish People on the current national position. Sinn Fein's Helpful Hints for Upholding HarmonyThe vibrant festival scene in South Armagh is dominated by the annual Liars Convention, an entertaining contest of fantastical tales at which reality has no place. You might wonder what is left for satire upon learning that the winner is invariably an
elected representative of Sinn Fein. Once it was Pat McNamee, a member of
the Northern Ireland Assembly, who is again wowing the public. Or is it
cowing the public? [Eamon Lynch, The Blanket]
