Neither London rule nor Dublin rule, but New Democracy, New Ireland

At a press conference in the Conway Mill, Belfast on February 11 Ruairí Ó Brádaigh launched a new document from Republican Sinn FéLin: An Address to the People of Ireland

'Eighty-one years after the partition of Ireland in 1922, and almost five years after the Stormont Agreement of 1998, Republican Sinn Féin, on the basis of a resolution passed at our annual Ard-Fheis held in October, 2002, wishes to address the Irish People on the current national position...' Ireland: direct rule continues

As the British government gears up for war in Iraq, it is attempting to maintain stability in the north of Ireland. It is hoping for a return to devolved Stormont rule by the end of February, ahead of elections to the Northern Ireland Assembly scheduled for 1 May. On 23 and 24 January the British government held an 'Ulster Summit' in London attended by the Irish government, the leader of the Ulster Unionist Party and former First Minister David Trimble and Sinn Fein's Gerry Adams.
