Spies and informers bewareTwo comments should be made
about the ongoing 'Stakeknife' affair. First is that if British Intelligence
was capable of pointing a finger at the ill-fated Mr Notarantonio in 1987 in
order to protect their sources, why would they not do the same now with an
equally innocent Mr Scapatticci? Nothing emanating from that quarter can be
taken at face value. Even the Leader of the House of Commons, John Reid, was
moved to give an interview to the Old Thunderer complaining about the
dishonesty of elements within the service. [Fourthwrite: Spies and informers

Part of a concerted campaignIn a statement on June 17,
Des Dalton, Assistant Publicity Officer, Republican Sinn Fein, said that the
Gaelic Football match which took place on Tuesday June 17 at Kilmacud
Crokes' GAA club in Dublin between Leinster House representatives and the
PSNI/RUC was just another stage in a concerted campaign by the 26-County
state and the British Government to normalise British rule in
Ireland. [Saoirse: Part of a concerted

A Secret History gets told in Galway Anthony McIntyreIn April, the Cuirt International
Festival of Literature took place courtesy of the Galway Arts Centre. It was
in its eighteenth year. The Town Hall Theatre played host to most of the
main events and as a sign of the high literary stature of the occasion names
such as the Chilean writer Ariel Dorfman had been billed to attend. I had
always liked Dorfman who, from the point of view of the powerful, has the
irritating habit of deflating their sense of
self-importance. [The Blanket: A Secret History gets told in
