Election Gamble
Danny Morrison
I love elections. I find them exciting. Can't believe that in my day I voted for Gerry Fitt (several times) and now I - a Sinn Fein supporter - am being asked to vote for pro-Agreement parties that include the SDLP, the Ulster Unionists and the Progressive Unionist Party! I shall do as I am asked and vote down the line and across the spectrum in the knowledge that it is unlikely to be reciprocated but in the hope that it will help create a culture where in the future it one day might.

True Believers Part 4
Web Mayfield
This week's topic from republican history is the Billy McMillen, also known as Liam McMillen. He was the top guy in the Belfast IRA in the late 60's, just before the split between the Provos and the Officials, and then continued to head up the Officials in Belfast until his death around 1975. Or so they say in the books.

Jayson Blair and the Westmeath Topic
Mags Glennon
The journalistic profession, never one held in the highest regard anyway, does sometimes throw up spectacular examples of dishonesty, much to the entertainment of readers. Recently a major scandal erupted in America when it was revealed that Jayson Blair, a crack newshound on the prestigious New York Times, could not be bothered to research his stories. Instead he plagiarised hundreds of reports from internet sources, or simply made stories that had no basis in fact. The New York Times sacked him and the paper will be apologising for a long time to come.

Belfast Agreement Postpones Cure For British Problem
Liam O Comain
Allegedly, in an internet site from a Loyalist source a few years ago I was referred too within a threatening context as a veteran terrorist as well as being the f****** theoretician of dissenting republicans. Apparently because of my opposition to the Belfast Agreement via letter writing and articles in certain political papers and magazines, as well as on the internet.

Acceptance of English rule a condition for election participation
Ruairí Ó Brádaigh
Speaking at a pre-election press conference in the Republican Sinn Féin offices at 229 Falls Road, Belfast today (Tuesday), Ruairí Ó Brádaigh, President of the organisation, said: We are calling on the people of the Six Counties either to Boycott the poll or Spoil their votes because this is not a free and fair election. Already many people have not applied to have their names on the register owing to the fact that the British government ultimately decides everything. They know that one must first accept British rule here before being allowed to participate.

SDLP - No Problem!
Danny Morrison
If I was in the SDLP and had worked hard all my political life for the party I would be angry and frustrated at the way Sinn Fein has stolen the limelight and is predicted by media commentators as being on the verge of opening up the gap between it and the SDLP.

Good Friday Agreement will not be renegotiated
Edentubber Martyrs Commemoration 2003 - Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams MP delivered the keynote address at the annual Edentubber Commemoration in County Louth on Sunday afternoon. He said that republicans have good cause to be disappointed and good cause to be angry about the events of 21 October but we must not allow this to cloud our political judgement. We are committed to this process and we do not intend to walk away from it. Nor do we intend to allow others to deny or escape from their obligations with respect to this process. He went on to say: There cannot and will not be any renegotiation of the Good Friday Agreement. There can be no new agreement. But there obviously is a need to make sure the unfinished business of the Agreement is completed.
