IRSP Unbowed

From The Starry Plough
Jun. 2002

Back to the days of the Heavy Gang!

The Irish Republican Socialist Party have been targeted in a burglary by Garda Special Branch in the latest in a series of sinister developments at the party's office in central Dublin. This latest attack came on Friday June 14th.

Among the items stolen were minutes books, financial records, a contact numbers book, tape recording of Martin Collins interview for this edition of the Starry Plough, locked cash box and copies of leafets and other republican socialist propaganda. All electrical equipment such as computers, phones, fax machines, printers etc were left untouched by these "State Burglars".

This latest incident occured only a few weeks after flags, holders, brackets and flag poles went missing from outside the building during the night. Recently a sign for the Dublin IRSP offices was removed from the front door.

These incidents are happening in paralell with the continued personal harrassment dished out to individual members of the party by the Garda special branch in their efforts to get members of the IRSP to turn into paid informers. Family and friends of party members in the Dublin area have also come under the secret spotlight in this continuing spree of political harassment. Many have been closely followed on their way to and from work and in some cases whilst leaving young children off at school.

Speaking directly to The Starry Plough, a spokesperson for the Dublin IRSP said, "It makes you ask the question, just who are the gardai out to protect with this harassment?

"Our party continues to bear the brunt of this type of activity on a daily basis. while drug dealers are poisoning working class children the guards turn a bind eye. "Well the answer to all this is that the Gardai are protecting the 'establishment' while letting the working classes rot in their drug filled towers.

"The IRSP are very confident that are continued growth throughtout Dublin and around the rest of the country will not suffer with this upsurge of political harrassment. It is true that our party in the 26 counties hasn't witnessed this type of 'state thuggery' since April 1976 when 34 members of the IRSP were arrested by the 'heavy gang' and tourtured and beaten while in custody. At that time also our party offices were raided with documents stolen and destroyed.

He concluded by saying "Are we now back to the days of the heavy gang?"
