Being besotted with both IM and SMS, I quickly signed up to get my IM's forwarded to my phone (once I discovered how). At first, if I had not laboriously added someone to my "mobile buddy list" I could recieve IMs from them, but could not reply. I assume those people thought I was ignoring them, which I was - in a sense. Anyway, I started to notice that I was getting IMs/SMSes from people I didn't know, with the text "You may reply to this message" appended. And, since these were sex SPAM IMs, this was somewhat confusing to me. But then I realized that AOL/Verizon had made it all interoperate without the need to add people to my mobile buddy list. Nice, I thought. And here is the news story making it "official".
