Sports Afield. From Sports Afield magazine, April 2002:
There is no use in your walking five miles to fish when you can depend on being just as unsuccessful near home. -- Mark Twain
and:
Following is a portion of a National Public Radio interview between a female broadcaster and U.S. Marine Corps General Rienwald sponsoring a Boy Scout Troop visit to his military installation.

Female Interviewer: So, General Reinwald, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?
General Reinwald: We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery, and shooting.
Female Interviewer: Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it?
General Reinwald: I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the rifle range.
Female Interviewer: Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?
General Reinwald: I don't see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm.
Female Interviewer: But you're equipping them to become violent killers.
General Reinwald: Well, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you're not one, are you?

The radio went silent, and the interview ended.

[End the War on Freedom]

Companies are beginning to discover the benefits of "e-sourcing"--a sort of business-to-business lite. These are similar to the benefits I enjoy by using Rent-A-Coder. I can imagine a future where coders are paid to modify open source code for private use.

I have recieved a call that my father is on his "death bed". In our family this means that he has crawled up in bed and is not responding to urges that he eat, etc. My grandmother hung on like this for two weeks, but she wasn't riddled with cancer like my father is. Consequently we are making some heavy decisions as to when to go, how long to stay, etc, on the money we have saved up.

Anyway, everything is up in the air right now. Probably just rig the laptop for modem use and drive.

I hope they don't ruin it. Travelocity pays $43 million for Site59. Travelocity acquires Site59, the last-minute travel company, for $43 million in cash, according sources close to the companies. [CNET News.com]
