Joy is when you finish up a well-executed algorithm that can handle many extra features. It is a kind of exhilirating surge of confidence mixed with a vision of God's purity and order. A kind of glimpse into heaven. This is what heaven will be like. Everything will work. The air you breath in will be clean and cool. Your body will be vigorous, not tired or achey, but will stretch out nicely. Your stomach will not be sour. No one will be mad at you. Your data structures will be comprehensive.

You are Dave Babbitt. Other would-be architects create confusion, you simplify. That code over there? The jumbled, case-insensitive, redundant, copy-and-paste job? You attack that with your superior analytical abilities, find the good code, and throw away the bad. You are that good. You can make it work, pretty up the formatting, consistify the case, and the naming conventions. You can discover what the customer really wants, and completely rewrite the data structure so that it is clearly understood and runs quicker.
