J's first ear infection

He had a difficult week, first losing his appetite, then becoming quite lethargic before we finally took him to the doctor's office. He was diagnosed with a bad ear infection. We had him dosing on both Tylenol and Motrin, as well as an antibiotic for the ear infection. P took Thursday off, and J just slept most of the day. Thursday night, his fever got really hot (over 105 rctl!) and we gave him several baths to cool him down. It was a long night. On friday, I stayed home and J just sat around and cried most of the time. Any time he tried to stand and walk, he'd lose his balance, fall down, and get very frustrated. He was so miserable.

Last night, my mom called to check in, and I updated her on his condition. She reminded me about my own chronic ear infections as a child, and sympathized with my feelings of helplessness and uncertainty. My ear infections started when I was just 4 months old, and I can only imagine how miserable both my folks were! J, on the other hand, is having his first much later, and is probably more typical than my case.

Today, J is feeling much better. We were out all day, and he was in generally good spirits. He sat in the baby backback, quite content to just look around all morning, then played on a grass lawn in the afternoon, napped a bit, and then joined us for a hearty dinner in Sausalito. I think he's over the hump is already well on his way to full recovery.
