Modern Civil Disobedience. The most overlooked thing about free music (thanks for the intellectual justification Lawrence Lessing!) ala Morpheus: you listen to groups you would never buy. Of all the strange things, I found myself listening to Jimmy Buffet and Cap't and Tenille today. Must be a severe retro phase.
With copyrights extended well past our lifetimes (up from 14 years a century ago), it is a moral imperative that people borrow music. Why? It creates a broad culture not defined by the narrow cultural managers in Big Co land. In my mind, anything over 14 years old is free game. No guilt.
We live in an age when America has allowed corporations to defend themselves and deal with individuals without goernment intervention. Wrong. Corporate control of the populace is fascism.... Unlimited control of copyright and easy patents are symptomatic. A lack of anti-trust controls is symptomatic. It is amazing how easily we can glide into this situation. Getting out is more problematic. [John Robb's Radio Weblog] - More excellent food for thought from John Robb!

Extremism in Opposition to Liberty is a Vice - " It's time for Mr. Ashcroft to be forced out of his position and replaced with an Attorney General who is familiar with the Consitutition and statutory U.S. law. The fact that he defends arbitrary treatment of citizens and non-citizens in the U.S., separate non-standard (non-military) treatment of foreign resident or visitors, and criticizes criticism of attacks on liberty all disqualify him from the job."

Working on CityDesk, Part Five
- "XML is a Dumb Format For Storing Data
" - It may be a dumb format for storing data but it's an excellent format for data interchange. Right now, CityDesk locks you in to their tool if you are not an HTML coder. Radio Userland, Manila, etc. don't because they export their data in XML which programmers (e.g. Joel converted his Manila site to CityDesk!!!!) can easily write to convert to whatever system you use next. As it stands now, I wouldn't buy CityDesk because: 1. I am locked into it's format since it doesn't export the files to an open format such as an XML based one 2. The URLs are meaningless!

Another reason not to use Outlook on the PC is that you can't disable receiving HTML mail. Fortunately, the No-HTML plugin allows you to do just that!
